Testimonials

Nancy and I connected during my 6/7 month of pregnancy. Up until then my journey was a roller coaster to say the least. I was diagnosed with severe IUGR and experienced other complications during my pregnancy. When I needed support Nancy was there throughout all of my worries. Although I happen to give birth months early during a time where she was a long distance, she communicated by phone during my entire hospital stay and after. Nancy empowered me to speak up to medical staff and make decisions for mine and my baby’s well being. She helped me stay focused when I began to feel the odds were against me and never brushed off any of my concerns. Instead, during her service I felt heard, validated, prepared, and capable of having a smooth labor and healthy baby. Her encouragement, labor tips, affirmations, and dedication to my well being left me feeling grateful to have had Nancy as a Doula. I felt the impact of her support and kindness and would love to have her again during any future pregnancies.

"As a father, having Nancy as our birth and postpartum doula was a true blessing. During the birth itself, your expertise and calming presence made what can often be an overwhelming and emotionally charged experience significantly more manageable. Your reassuring guidance helped both my partner and me find strength and resilience we didn't know we had. Your support allowed us to focus on the beauty of the moment, knowing that we had a knowledgeable and caring advocate by our side.

Transitioning into the postpartum period, your care was an anchor for our family. Your wisdom and understanding of newborn care and maternal recovery provided us with the tools and confidence we needed to navigate early parenthood. Your compassionate approach to both baby and parents made the daunting task of caring for a newborn feel like a joyful adventure rather than an overwhelming challenge."

FAQ

What is a birth doula?

A birth doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to individuals and couples during pregnancy, childbirth, and the immediate postpartum period. The role of a birth doula is to offer continuous support to the expectant person and their partner, if present, throughout the childbirth process.

Why do I need a doula?

There are countless studies on how doula’s have improved health and birth outcomes. Overall, highlighting the need and evidence that doula’s are essential personnel for your birth team. Click Here to review what the American Pregnancy Association has to say.

When will Nancy join me in labor?

Labor can fluctuate and everyone responds to it differently. That is why, when you feel you are in labor, give me a call! I usually join you around the end of early labor (around 4cm), however, if you need my assistance prior to this point, we can discuss what is best for you and your birth experience.

What does a postpartum doula do?

The presence of a postpartum doula can help individuals and families feel more confident and empowered as they navigate the early weeks or months of parenthood. By offering assistance, information, and emotional support, postpartum doulas contribute to a smoother transition and improved well-being for the entire family. Services can include newborn care and teaching, infant feeding support, self-care for mother, sleep support, meal planning and preparation, grocery shopping and errands, sibling care, light housekeeping, or accompaniment to medical appointments.

Why would I need a doula if I have other support persons?

Having a doula alongside your partner and other support persons can provide additional benefits and support during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. While partners play an essential role, doulas offer unique expertise and assistance that can complement and enhance the overall birthing experience.

For instance, Doulas can help partners feel more confident in their supportive role by providing guidance, suggestions, and reassurance. Doulas also provide continuous support throughout labor and birth, which can be especially beneficial in long labors or during times when partners may need rest or refreshment. This ensures that there is a consistent presence offering emotional and physical support, allowing partners to take breaks or focus on their own needs while knowing that you are supported.

Do you accept insurance?

I currently do not accept insurance as a form of payment. However, I may ask for insurance information for any referrals to lactation consultants, pediatricians, mental health providers, and other personnel that accept insurance.

Can I give doula services as a gift?

Yes! Just contact me and we can discuss further!

Can I get a refund?

I do not offer refunds. I can make the exception in specific circumstances and it is up to my sole discretion, for instance, an early pregnancy loss.

When will I have my prenatal visits?

I usually do the first prenatal visit at 35 weeks. Then the second prenatal visit at 37 weeks.

What are the benefits of placenta preservation?

  • Hormonal Balance: It is believed that the hormones present in the placenta, including progesterone and estrogen, may help balance hormones in the postpartum period, potentially reducing symptoms of postpartum depression and improving mood.
  • Increased Energy: Some people suggest that consuming placenta capsules can help boost energy levels and combat postpartum fatigue due to the nutritional content of the placenta.
  • Nutritional Support: The placenta is rich in various nutrients, including iron, vitamins B6 and B12, and minerals such as zinc and magnesium. Proponents argue that consuming the encapsulated placenta may help replenish these nutrients in the postpartum period.
  • It's important to note that the scientific evidence supporting these claimed benefits is limited and inconclusive. While there are anecdotal reports of positive experiences, there is currently no substantial scientific research that definitively demonstrates the effectiveness or safety of placenta encapsulation.

When should I NOT preserve my placenta via encapsulation, tincture or balm?

  • Infection: If the placenta or the surrounding tissues were infected during the birth process, encapsulation is not recommended. This is to avoid potential contamination of the placenta capsules, as ingesting capsules from an infected placenta may pose health risks.
  • Preterm Birth: If your baby was born prematurely, it is generally recommended not to encapsulate the placenta. This is because preterm placentas may have a higher risk of bacterial contamination or may not have fully developed, which can affect the safety and effectiveness of encapsulation.
  • Maternal Health Conditions: If you have certain health conditions, such as HIV, hepatitis, or any other blood-borne illnesses, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider before considering placenta encapsulation. These conditions may increase the risk of transmitting the infection through the encapsulated placenta.
  • Medication Use: If you were on medications during pregnancy or labor that could potentially affect the safety of encapsulation, it is advisable to consult with your healthcare provider. Some medications may interact with the placenta or affect its suitability for encapsulation.
  • Placenta Abnormalities: In cases where the placenta shows abnormalities or has been diagnosed with certain conditions, encapsulation may not be recommended. Examples include placenta previa (when the placenta covers the cervix) or placenta accreta (when the placenta attaches too deeply into the uterine wall).

How can I pay for your services?

I accept PayPal, Credit and debit cards, HSA and FSA.

What happens during a prenatal meeting with a doula?

Prenatal meetings allow the doula to get to know you, discuss your birth preferences, address any concerns, and create a birth plan tailored to your needs and wishes.

How will my placenta be transported?

Ideally, before your birth we will discuss placenta transportation, processing center, delivery, and instructions of consumption. Typically, I pick up the placenta prior to leaving the family unit in the postpartum floor. Once picked up, I deliver it to the processing center where I can process it for encapsulation, tincture or balm.

When will I get my placenta?

The placenta dehydration and pulverization process takes up to 3 days. Once processed and packaged, in-person delivery should be within 1-2 days. Any changes to this timeline will be discussed with you during processing.
